Resize a Watch Bracelet with Screw-Type Pins

Whether you've treated yourself to a new watch or received one as a gift, a perfect fit on your wrist is crucial for both comfort and style. Houtman watch bracelets have screw-type pins, resizing it to achieve that ideal fit is a straightforward process that you can easily do at home. In this guide, we'll walk you through with a step-by-step guide on how to resize your watch bracelet with ease.

Materials Needed:

  • Screwdriver (supplied with the watch bracelet)
  • Soft cloth or watchmaker's pad (optional)

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

Before you begin, make sure you have all the necessary materials laid out in a well-lit and organized workspace. Ensure that your screwdriver matches the screw heads on your watch bracelet.

Step 2: Identify the Screws

Examine your watch bracelet to locate the screws that connect the links. Screw-type pins can be found on the sides of the bracelet links.

Step 3: Secure the Watch

Depending on your preference, you may wish to hold the watch or place it on a soft cloth or watchmaker's pad to prevent scratches.

Step 4: Loosen the Screws

Insert the appropriate screwdriver into the screw heads on the links you wish to remove. Turn the screwdriver counterclockwise to loosen the screws. Be sure to hold onto the screws as you remove them to avoid misplacement- labelled snap lock bags are ideal for spare screws and links.

Note: if the first screw you attempt to loosen doesn’t want to move, or seems excessively tight, try another screw.

Step 5: Remove the Links

Once the screws are loosened, gently pull apart the links and set aside any extra links for future use.

Step 6: Reassemble and Tighten

If you've removed enough links to achieve the desired fit, reassemble the bracelet by aligning the remaining links and tightening the screws. Use your screwdriver to turn the screws clockwise until snug. Be cautious not to overtighten to avoid damaging the threads.

Step 7: Check the Fit

After reassembly, wear the watch and assess the fit. The bracelet should comfortably sit on your wrist without being too tight or too loose. If further adjustments are needed, repeat the process until the watch fits perfectly.

Need more adjustment?

All Houtman bracelets have micro adjusting clasps – the Pilbara series use a push pin type, where you will need to insert a pin into the claps in order to adjust. The Murchison series have on-the-fly adjusting clasp, for a even quicker experience.

Resizing a watch bracelet with screw-type pins is a simple DIY task that allows you to customize your watch for optimal comfort and style. By following these step-by-step instructions, you can enjoy your timepiece with confidence, knowing it's a perfect fit for your wrist!
