My second Houtman watch as I already own a Pilbara - This one is even better! - Fantastic deal struck with Jason who kept me informed at every step of the purchase, all the way through to the speedy delivery to the UK - This Murchison looks fantastic & runs within 1 second per day! - Perfect! 10/10

I bought the Murchison Burnt Earth variant purely as a result of a suggestion made to a question I posed which was if anyone knew of a watch with a salmon dial that was 40+ in diameter. This is actually quite a rare specification its seems where almost all that I could afford are either sold out, 38mm or simply way out of my budget. The suggestion triggered my recollection of Houtman as a brand I saw with interest on you tube reviews, but I had forgotten about them over time. I’m really glad I had my memory refreshed and this suggestion made because the watch is absolutely awesome. I am a collector of watches, and this watch is one I keep gravitating toward when I open my watch box to choose what I’m wearing. The design is really well thought out. The bezel which in proportion to the flush and flat crystal, is quite thin so it wears on wrist bigger than its 40mm suggests because you get the visual impression of a dial with a lot more real estate than its dimensions, and that’s also helped by keeping the dial free of clutter with minimal text and a really well thought out font, size and spacing for the Arabic’s. By keeping the Arabic numerals as close to the chapter ring as possible, your eye is drawn to the centre of the dial and all the space which enables the watch to showcase this warm colour of a sun setting over an arid landscape. Its is a unique and very interesting take on a salmon colourway. The case actually wears thinner than its dimensions suggest too and I think that’s down to a few things, a clever trick of the eye by the way the polished edge of the bezel acts as a transition point between the top the bezel that is brushed and the case that is also but with some polished accenting along the lugs. Also the way the case tapers down straight away from the lugs and the bevelling between the case and the case back is another visual trick but also genuinely reduces the height on wrist as the case sits more into the recess of your wrist. I realise I’m making quite a thing about how the watch looks bigger than its 40 mm suggests, because that was my requirement. But anyone used to 38-39 ought to feel assured that this wouldn’t look out of place and that’s again down to a compact lug to lug and their downturn. I haven’t mentioned the bracelet yet. I have to say, the bracelet is an absolute must! Buy it, you really wont regret it. The quality of fit and finish is excellent. It’s a faux, beads of rice but has very small links which is great for sizing up accurately and anyone who has had to alter a genuine beads of rice would know that they can be a real pain to alter and after a time, the links become quite loose and rattly. You get all the comfort and looks of a beads of rice bracelet here, without the downsides. There are female end link at the dial end of the watch so the compact lug and downturn of the watch is maintained just as it is on the straps. It has screw links which I found easy to unscrew and screw back in after altering, I haven’t had to use Loctite and I have worn the watch for several days and none of the screws are loosening. But its real party piece is the on the fly micro adjustment. This is so simple to use. You can finite alter with ease as your wrist swells and contracts to a mm! Very impressed and even fully extended, you are not left with some ugly join between the bracelet and the clasp exposed. Negatives I know a review should identify and communicate some not so positives or “moans and niggles” to coin a phrase from one famous influencer. But the truth is. I can’t find anything to fault the Murchison on. This is the first time I have ever said that about a watch. Revised review 08.04.2023(type error amendments only)

I saw this brand, had never heard of it but loved the green dial. It’s become one of my favorite pieces. Keeps great time, bracelet is sweet … I’m a fan. Make a diver!

Pros: Unique Dial, amazing fit and finish Cons: Other watches in my collection is getting neglected, the red dog on the caseback imprint my wrist to remind me I need to wear this watch.

Absolutely beautiful timepiece. The backplate with the kangaroo and Murchison looks great. Very legible dial, strong lume. I hear a nice audible fast tick if I focus which I enjoy. Sapphire glass, Swiss movement, screw in bracelet links, everything just feels amazing quality. Punching way above its price here. Well done to Jason and the team.

Beautiful watch that lights up a room. Perfect proportions, fine finish and eye catching. Houtman watches are good quality, classy and all at a reasonable price. I have 2 and am often eyeing other models. You wont be disappointed with these quality pieces.

A couple of weeks ago I saw a pic of a watch I hadn't seen before. A Houtman Murchison River. It had a cool dial and as I live by a river and near the sea, so it seemed like a good watch to have. Waterproof to 100m, so no worries if it gets wet. Plus the price was very good and it's got a Sellita SW200 movement, so no probs getting it serviced. The lume's great. There's actually three different colour lumes on the dial but my phone only shows two. The hands also have a bright blue lume. It's comes with two straps - brown leather and blue/grey suede. Only negative it that it's not the most legible dial - but that's pretty obvious. It's something different and a fun watch to wear.

This is my second Houtman. There's just something about Houtman watches that feel right on the wrist. The weight, the balance the proportions, the look, give the impression that every component was designed and crafted to work with every other component. It feels good in the hand and is comfortable to wear. The leather case and watchband are of superior quality. It’s a value proposition for sure, and my strong feel is that Houtman sought value in every aspect of the creation of this keepsake of a timepiece. Really well done!

Love it. Simple, beautiful, comfortable (even as someone with skinny wrists!). A bit of a knack to get used to the winding mechanism, but perfectly fine when you do. Delighted to support a quality Australian- designed product too.

Beautifully understated but elegant watch with a very clearly readable uncomplicated dial. Excellent quality and packaging. Bonus leather band (as seen in photo) was a nice touch that I probably wouldn’t have considered but really enjoying it! Buying feels like a personal experience and presentation all round is fantastic. Everything has a solid quality feel. Love it!

The Pilbara Watch is now a prized element of my small watch collection. Its elegance, uncluttered but refined style, and unique Australian character, are all reasons why I just love the Pilbara Rock. Now my attention is turned to acquiring a Murchison River Lime.
